NATO used paper maps while Ukraine used the Delta app

In May 2025, NATO ran a major war game in Estonia called Hedgehog 25.

More than 16,000 troops from twelve NATO countries including a British brigade, an Estonian division, and a full Allied force package; all conducting a simulated mechanized offensive.

The opposing force or OPFOR was a Ukrainian-Estonian mixed unit, with Ukrainian drone operators pulled straight from the front lines.

In the first day, those ten Ukrainians simulated the destruction of 17 armored vehicles and hit dozens of other targets and by the end, two NATO battalions had been effectively eliminated.

The exercise commander said the results were “terrible” for NATO forces.

One NATO commander who watched it summarized his conclusion in three words:

“We are fucked.”

Let me set the stage properly, because the details of how this played out are more revealing.

The exercise was Hedgehog 2025, held in Estonia last May. We’re just getting some of the details now.
